 Cosmetology II Course Outline and Classroom Expectations

 

Course Mission:

To educate, inspire, unify, and challenge each student through creating a culture that provides knowledge in the fundamental skills of both theory and practical applications of cosmetology practices with 100% mastery in preparation for advancement to post-secondary education.

 

Textbooks:   

Milady Standard Cosmetology: Milady/Cengage Learning 2015 Edition.

Milady Hair Structure and Chemistry Simplified: Milady/Cengage Learning 2015 Edition

Milady Standard Cosmetology: Theory Workbook. Milady/Cengage Learning 2015 Edition.

Milady Standard Cosmetology: Practical Workbook. Milady/Cengage Learning 2015 Edition.

 

Materials Required:

  1. Standard folder with pockets and brackets to keep homework
  2. ½ inch 3 ring binder for portfolio
  3. Composition Notebook
  4. Highlighter
  5. Notebook paper
  6. No. 2 Pencil and/or Ink pen

 

 Key to Success:

The most important grading factor in this class is consistent effort. You are ultimately responsible for taking ownership of your education.

 

Class Expectations:

  1. Arrive to class on time and prepare to begin Bell Work (10 mins)
  2. Arrive with all necessary materials needed for classroom instruction.
  3. Cell phones are not allowed out during class.
  4. No food in the classroom. Water is permitted.
  5. Engage in and perform all classroom assignments. Written assignments are due at the end of class unless otherwise noted.
  6. All late classwork/homework assignments will lose 10 points a day, for a max of 30 points per assignment.
  7. Ask questions.  If you don’t know something asks. 
  8. Work diligently at mastering all practical skills associated with cosmetology.
  9. Respect others.  Please try to refrain from gossiping. Bullying and inappropriate language are not allowed.
  10. Keep work area clean, orderly, and take proper care of books and materials used. Sanitation is a component of your grade in Cosmetology II.
  11. Stealing will constitute an immediate Dean Referral.
  12. Cheating on any test, quiz, or assignment will result in an automatic zero on your test.
  13. No one is allowed in the supply closet or the office without the express permission and accompaniment of the instructor.
  14. Equipment and tools will be signed out and in as needed. All verbal and written instructions regarding equipment are expected to be followed.
  15. Violation of any policies or procedures will result in disciplinary action.

GRADING GUIDELINES:

Formative and Summative Assessments will make up 45% of a student’s overall course grade.   This will include any graded learning assessments used as a diagnostic assessment of student’s mastery of Cosmetology Standards.  Both formative and summative assessments are used to assess content retention.  Grades are weighted as followed:

CFA/Test Grade 45%

Standards-Based Grade 30%

Daily Assignments/ Homework 25%

 

Practical Assessments will make up 25% of a student’s overall course grade. These assessments fall into the category of daily assignments/homework.  These assessments are practical, hands-on applications of the cosmetology theories learned.  Practical assignments will be performed on mannequins as well as live models under the supervision of the instructor.

CLASSROOM INCENTIVES:

90/90 Club: Students with 90% academics and  90% attendance.

Student of the Month: The student must be a part of the 90/90 Club for the month. 

 

COURSE PARTICIPATION:

Students' engagement in classroom activities accompanied with displaying professional and industry-ready qualities will be emphasized throughout the course.
