LHS Student Council Elections Information

2024-2025

 

Application Process:

View the LHS Student Council Officer & Representative descriptions (includes eligibility, roles, and responsibilities)
 
Complete the online application by Thursday, May 9th at 3:00 pm.   Late applications will NOT be accepted. There will be no exceptions or extensions!
 
The application will ask candidates two teachers to provide a recommendation. You MUST provide your teachers will this link for providing recommendationshttps://tinyurl.com/StuCoTeachRec
Teacher recommendations will be due no later than Monday May 13th at 3:00 pm
 

Campaigning Process:

Friday, May 3rd - Tuesday, May 14th

YOU MUST Create & distribute/display at least 5 promotional fliers around the school

YOU SHOULD put up flyers in classrooms with the teachers’ permission, talk yourself up to people, and pass fliers and/or campaign swag out to peers.

YOU CAN NOT put flyers on the hallway walls or in the cafeteria, move around during lunch to pass campaign related things or cause any classroom, lunchroom, or hallway disturbance with your campaigning.

YOU SHOULD Create and post an informational video about you & why you are running on Twitter.

Tag @lhsinthenews and use #STUCOelectionsLHS

YOU MUST Submit an informational one-pager slide: Email to [email protected]

by this Monday, May 6th at 8:30 AM. Submit a slide with your picture, office running for, short bio,

and why you want to run. It will be on during lunch.

****If you are the only person running for office, you do not need to campaign.****

 

Voting Process:  

Friday, May 10th morning – Tuesday, May 14th at the end of Wolverine time.
We will announce winners on Wednesday, May 15th at lunch. 
New officers will attend a mandatory meeting Wednesday, May 15th

Representative

Requirements

Duties

·        At least 2.5 GPA

·        Completed application

·        Two teacher recommendations

·        $20.00 club dues

·        Attendance to greater than 75% of meetings when the number of meetings exceeds 5.

·        Actively participate in meetings.

·        Respond to Student Council communications (emails, texts, forms, etc.)

·        Represent LaVergne High School in a positive manner.

·        Promote school events and school spirit.

·        10 volunteer hours completed by May 5th

2025.

Failure to complete/meet any requirements will result in removal from student council, appeal process to follow.

 

President

Requirements

Duties

·        At least 3.0 GPA

·        Must be a member of the 2025 graduating class

·        Completed application

·        Two teacher recommendations

·        $20.00 club dues

·        Attendance to greater than 90% of meetings when the number of meetings exceeds 5.

·        Create meeting agenda

·        Work closely and communicate with sponsors

·        Run meetings

·        Create/delegate creation of materials for meetings when necessary

·        Maintain close communicative relationship with Administration.

·        Oversee Senior Week committee.

·        Coordinate and communicate Senior Events, creating committees when necessary.

·        Communicate and gather feedback from grade level and student council officers and representatives.

·        Respond to Student Council communications (emails, texts, forms, etc.)

·        Represent LaVergne High School in a positive manner.

·        Promote school events and school spirit.

·        10 volunteer hours completed by May 5th

2025.

 

Failure to complete/meet any requirements will result in removal from student council, appeal process to follow.

 

 

Vice-President

Requirements

Duties

·        At least 3.0 GPA

·        Must be a member of the 2026 or 2025

graduating class

·        Completed application

·        Two teacher recommendations

·        $20.00 club dues

·        Attendance to greater than 90% of meetings when the number of meetings exceeds 5.

·        Fulfill duties of president in any case where President is unable to fulfill duties.

·        Communicate and gather feedback from grade level and student council officers and representatives.

·        Maintain close communicative relationship with Administration.

·        Oversee and promote communication with special committees.

·        Respond to Student Council communications (emails, texts, forms, etc.)

·        Represent LaVergne High School in a positive manner.

·        Promote school events and school spirit.

·        10 volunteer hours completed by May 5th

2025.

 

Failure to complete/meet any requirements will result in removal from student council, appeal process to follow.

 

Secretary

Requirements

Duties

·        At least 3.0 GPA

·        Must be a member of the 2026 or 2025

graduating class

·        Completed application

·        Two teacher recommendations

·        $20.00 club dues

·        Attendance to greater than 90% of meetings when the number of meetings exceeds 5.

·        Take and record attendance at every meeting.

·        Manage student council documentation.

·        Take minutes of each student council meeting and post those minutes for student body.

·        Create and carry out any communication deemed necessary by Student Council President or Sponsors.

·        Assist President in creating meeting agendas.

·        Create and oversee Social Media Committee.

·        Appoint additional correspondent Secretaries if assistance is needed.

·        Maintain close communicative relationship with Student Council President and Sponsors.

·        Respond to Student Council communications (emails, texts, forms, etc.)

·        Represent LaVergne High School in a positive manner.

·        Promote school events and school spirit.

·        10 volunteer hours completed by May 5th

2025.

School Involvement Liaison

Requirements

Duties

·        At least 3.0 GPA

·        Must be a member of the 2026 or 2025

graduating class

·        Completed application

·        Two teacher recommendations

·        $20.00 club dues

·        Attendance to greater than 90% of meetings when the number of meetings exceeds 5.

·        Participate in Social Media Committee

·        Promote school events on Social Media.

·        Gather feedback from student body to identify desirable student events.

·        Oversee Homecoming and Coming Home Committees.

·        Maintain close communicative relationship with Student Council President and Sponsors.

·        Respond to Student Council communications (emails, texts, forms, etc.)

·        Represent LaVergne High School in a positive manner.

·        Promote school events and school spirit.

·        10 volunteer hours completed by May 5th

2025.

Rules and Procedures of Student Council

The Student Council of LHS requires that students meet certain expectations in order to be involved. We are the voice of LHS and we understand that fellow students look to us for examples and guidance.


Please adhere by the following rules:
1. Students must follow Code of Conduct expectations set by the school officials.
2. Students must adhere to the Bullying Policies set by the school.
3. Students must treat all other members and their ideas with respect.
4. Students in leadership positions with student council must communicate directly with student council sponsors.
5. Students in leadership positions and council members must not receive discipline referrals for behavior.
6. Students must always have POSITIVE ATTITUDE toward the school, all peers, and all admin, faculty, and staff.

7. Students MUST have a 2.5 or higher GPA at all times.

8. Students are expected to pay $20 in dues. 


All students have the opportunity to be involved in LHS student council. With that being said, we have high expectations and desire for the student council to display the Core Values and Code of Conduct expectations set here at school.
