As announced this summer, Rutherford County Schools has launched two new technology tools that will simplify how parents receive information and how they interact with their teachers and coaches to learn about their student’s academics, school announcements, and extra-curricular activities.
The first one is ParentVue by Synergy, and this will be used to see your student’s academic information, including report cards, daily grades, missing assignments, class schedules, etc. It is similar to Skyward that we used last year, but it is much more mobile and user friendly. The companion is called StudentVue and contain similar information for students.
The second app, and perhaps the most important, is MyRCS. Search for “Rutherford County Schools” in your app store, and download it for free.
The MyRCS app will be used by parents to receive messages and interact with your school, teachers, coaches, or band directors depending on the activities students are involved in. This is the sole communication platform we are using for this type of communication this year. It replaces platforms such as ClassDojo, Remind, Band or any others as parents have asked for a one-stop source for school information.
Once downloaded, you can select which schools your children attend to receive a live feed of news items from those schools. By adjusting your preferences, written messages families receive are translated automatically into your preferred language. You can also interact directly teachers and coaches using a featured called “Rooms,” which is a secure two-way communication tool.
Rooms launches Monday and Parents will receive an email or text message inviting them to join their teacher’s or coach’s Room. If you don’t get the email or text, that’s ok. Beginning Monday evening you can visit the Rooms section of the app, or use the login button on your school’s website.
For your login, all you need to enter is the cell phone number you have on file with your school or your email address. You should then receive an access code, and you will be logged in.

LaVergne student earns prestigious state award
TSBA award recognizes high academic performance

LaVergne High School senior, Chinedu Obi, has earned the 2026 Tennessee School Boards Association Mid Cumberland Student Achievement Award.
Each year the TSBA names a student in each of its nine regional districts in Tennessee to receive the award. To be eligible for the nomination, students must demonstrate high academic performance and leadership within their school and community. Students are first nominated by their school district, which is then reviewed by the TSBA Board.
Obi was nominated by his Beta club sponsors, and teachers, Mary Adolfson and Mara Greenberg.
“He consistently exemplifies exceptional leadership, integrity, and dedication to others; he is a respected and positive role model among his peers, particularly for underclassmen whom he generously mentors and encourage,” Adolfson said. “I nominated Chinedu in recognition of his outstanding academic achievements, demonstrated leadership capabilities, and unwavering commitment to serving his school and community.”
As an aspiring neurosurgeon who plans to attend Vanderbilt University, Obi is involved in many of LaVergne’s clubs. He serves as president of Health Occupation Students of America, senior class representative for BETA club and is also part of Interact club where he serves both his school and the community.
Obi also runs track and field in the spring.
“I have to mention my track coaches, Chris Johnson and Jackson Fleming,” Obi said. “They’ve always motivated me and pushed me to try harder, try my best, and to leave everything out on the table. Then, even if I don’t make the time or qualify with what I need, at least I gave it my all. There’s a bit of comfort in that.”
Having started his schooling at LaVergne Lake Elementary as a kindergartener, Obi cites the positive impact support from staff that truly care about students has had on him, as well as the opportunities LaVergne offers. Obi also credits the disciplines of showing up, being responsible, and respectful as keys to his success.
Obi was presented the award on Thursday at the awards ceremony held at the regional district meeting in Lebanon. There will be another award ceremony held in November where he will be eligible to receive a $2,000 scholarship should he be announced as the statewide winner. He has already completed that last step to be eligible for this award, by writing an essay on how to improve public schools and by completing an interview.

LaVergne High School is wrapping up three days of hands-on career exploration with Be Pro Be Proud Tennessee.
Led by the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Nissan, the mobile workshop experience consists of an 18-wheeler filled with simulators and other equipment, giving students exposure to career opportunities in fields such as welding, 3-D printing, transportation, logistics and more.

Rutherford County Schools cut the ribbon on LaVergne High School’s three-story, 80,000-square foot addition Sunday afternoon.
Completed four months ahead of schedule, the expanded facility offers 27 new classrooms, lecture hall, a forensics lab for criminal justice students, labs for physics, chemistry and biology classes, as well as marketing and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).
But the building means much more than walls and classrooms, said Principal Dr. Theowauna Hatchett, a LaVergne High graduate.
“Having sat in these classrooms myself, it makes it especially meaningful to me. I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to lead this school and help shape its future. It means more to me than I can adequately express,” Hatchett said.
She reminded students in attendance that the school belongs to them and encouraged them to take full advantage of the opportunities the expansion provides.
“An investment of this magnitude says your community believes in you,” Hatchett said.
Rutherford County Schools will officially open the new addition at LaVergne High School at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16.

LHS is proud to announce that we are a 2025-2026 National Beta School of Distinction. We earned this recognition by increasing our club’s membership by at least 10% from last year.
National Beta School of Distinction is an honor for Beta clubs striving towards academic achievement, exemplary character, demonstrated leadership and service to others. With an ongoing quest to instill these qualities in more students, the National Beta School of Distinction Award is designed to reward those schools that show an increase in membership for the current school year. This year, only 2,959 clubs across the country received this award.
